THANK YOU TO THE LARGEST BIPARTISAN COALITION OF CANNABIS JUSTICE ADVOCATES
Although 24 states and D.C. have legalized adult-use cannabis sales and the vast majority of the U.S. population now lives in states with some form of legal cannabis, tens of thousands of people remain in state and federal prison.
It is imperative that as the federal government seeks to downgrade cannabis’ status from a Schedule I drug, advocates are pushing for the full legalization of cannabis, which will require descheduling and effective strategies for undoing the past harms.
On April 18th, 2024, we mobilized the largest bi-partisan coalition of cannabis advocacy, industry, and grassroots organizations in the U.S. to lobby in Washington D.C. for a 420 Unity Day of Action that put public pressure on Congress and the President to take action to fully legalize cannabis, free those still in prison, and provide retroactive relief.

We recommend folks arrive by the evening of April 16th. On April 17th, we will hold a press conference in the morning, attend the National Cannabis Festival Policy Summit from 10am-4pm at the MLK Library, and provide a Lobby Day Training directly from 4-5pm also at the MLK Library. On April 18th for Lobby Day, we will convene at the Congressional Visitor Center (CVC) Auditorium at 9am. We will have an introductory program and ensure everyone is prepared for meetings with their legislators. We will leave the auditorium by 11am, and individual meetings will take place until 4pm. We will be having a White House candlelight vigil that evening from 7-10pm at Lafayette Square.
All lodging should be booked independently by individuals or organizations. There is no set hotel or room block that folks will be staying in, but we recommend something within easy walking distance to the MLK Library, the Congressional Visitor Center, the U.S. Capitol building, or the White House, as those are the locations of our main events. Transportation will not be provided.
Individuals are encouraged to contact their respective lawmakers from their state/district to set up meetings for April 18th. LPP staff will be reaching out to all possible legislators to set up meetings as well and will work to coordinate meetings so a variety of offices are covered.
We do not want anyone to be unable to attend because of security issues, so please check out the Capitol Visitor Center’s website to review all of their security policies. This includes the list of prohibited items so you know what you can or cannot bring into the building. No cannabis is allowed on the premises of federal buildings.
