THANK YOU TO THE LARGEST BIPARTISAN COALITION OF CANNABIS JUSTICE ADVOCATES

READ STORIES FROM LAST YEARS' ACTION

Although 24 states and D.C. have legalized adult-use cannabis sales and the vast majority of the U.S. population now lives in states with some form of legal cannabis, tens of thousands of people remain in state and federal prison.

It is imperative that as the federal government seeks to downgrade cannabis’ status from a Schedule I drug, advocates are pushing for the full legalization of cannabis, which will require descheduling and effective strategies for undoing the past harms.

On April 18th, 2024, we mobilized the largest bi-partisan coalition of cannabis advocacy, industry, and grassroots organizations in the U.S. to lobby in Washington D.C. for a Cannabis Unity Day of Action that put public pressure on Congress and the President to take action to fully legalize cannabis, free those still in prison, and provide retroactive relief.

FAQ

  • What is the Unity Week of Action?

On April 28th through May 1st 2025, we will be mobilizing the largest bi-partisan coalition of cannabis advocacy, industry, and grassroots organizations in the U.S. to lobby in Washington D.C. to put pressure on Congress and the President to fully legalize cannabis and provide retroactive relief for those harmed by cannabis criminalization.

  • How do I learn more about participating in Unity Week of Action?

Visit lpp.la/420UnityDay to learn more and to sign up. Please register here for our public info session on March 5th at 3:30pmPT/6:30pmET or April 2nd where we will share more details and answer any questions.

  • What is the schedule for 420 Unity Day of Action?

We recommend folks arrive by the evening of Sunday April 27th. On April 28th, we will kick things off with the National Cannabis Festival Policy Summit from 10am-4pm at the MLK Library, and provide a Lobby Day Training directly from 4-5pm also at the MLK Library. On April 29th at 2pm we will convene at the Congressional Visitor Center (CVC) Auditorium. We will have an introductory program and ensure everyone is prepared for meetings with their legislators. Wednesday April 30th we will hit the hill and visit the offices of our congressional representatives. Lastly, on May 1st will hold the Great American Rally for Cannabis Freedom in front of the White House at Lafayette Square from 4-9pm.

  • What is the availability of lodging/transportation?

All lodging should be booked independently by individuals or organizations. There is no set hotel or room block that folks will be staying in, but we recommend something within easy walking distance to the MLK Library, the Congressional Visitor Center, the U.S. Capitol building, or the White House, as those are the locations of our main events. Transportation will not be provided.

  • How are meetings with lawmakers being set up?

Individuals are encouraged to contact their respective lawmakers from their state/district to set up meetings for April 30th or May 1st. LPP staff will be available to assist in reaching out to all legislators to set up meetings.

  • What can I do as an individual to get involved in advance of Unity Week of Action?

Use the graphics in our social media tool kit to announce to your networks that you're mobilizing  in DC and invite them to join us at our March 5th info session.

Call your Senator and ask for a meeting on or before April 30th to discuss their position on full legalization.

Plan an action or meet up in your community to encourage your allies to use this Unity Week in service of collective political action.

  • Know Before You Go: What will security allow at the Capitol?

We do not want anyone to be unable to attend because of security issues, so please check out the Capitol Visitor Center’s website to review all of their security policies. This includes the list of prohibited items so you know what you can or cannot bring into the building. No cannabis is allowed on the premises of federal buildings.

“We need an all hands on deck approach to ending the unjust war on our community, which means leveraging incremental wins as we build toward bigger, bolder reforms. While rescheduling alone will not offer retroactive relief, it would be a historic shift in policy, and we must be ready to push open the door of reform when it happens. We have outlined several ways the administration can achieve real relief and add substance to the President's mostly symbolic reforms so far.”
